Lyme Disease Carrying ticks on the rise.

Hunters Beware!

Blacklegged ticks, a Lyme disease carrier rarely encountered in Ohio before 2010, increasingly are making themselves at home in the Buckeye state.
Migrating from the east, populations of the tick now are thought to be established in at least 26 counties, including Licking, and they showed up for the first time this year in Fairfield County.
Ohio has recorded 36 cases of Lyme disease so far this year, including three among Franklin County residents, and more might crop up this fall as hunters stomp through the woods in search of turkey and deer.

FTC Takes Action Against Companies Marketing Allegedly Unproven Natural Bed Bug and Head Lice Treatments

Cedar, Cinnamon, Lemon Grass, Peppermint, and Clove Oil? There's No Proof They Will Eradicate Bed Bugs, Agency Says

The Federal Trade Commission filed deceptive advertising charges against two  marketers of remedies for bed bug infestations, who allegedly failed to back up overhyped claims that they could prevent and eliminate infestations using natural ingredients, such as cinnamon and cedar oil.  One marketer also allegedly made misleading claims that its products were effective against head lice...

We recently received an e-mail from a customer with several picutres of  the underside of the roof covering his front porch.  He was at a loss as to what this might be.  After asking several questions about where in the country this was and how long has the damage been occurring, how high is the area and others, we came to the conclusion that is was most likely squirrels.

The customer wasn't as confident in our assessment as we were, so he placed out a wildlife camera that is motion activated.  These cameras are great for identifying mystery pests that cause damage.  Especially when you can never manage to catch them in the act.  Here is the image of the culprit in the act.

Sure enough it was exactly what we thought it might be.  If there is one thing I love, it's being right.  So now we know what is causing the damage what can be done?  This is actually as important as knowing what it is causing the problem.  This squirrel was causing 100's of dollars in damage in a very short time.   Even more if you have to hire someone to get this porch back to it's prior beauty before meeting up with the squirrel.
I told the customer to use Ropel.  This is a liquid repellant that is odorless, but most animals including me can't stand it's taste.  Just a few treatments in the area the animal is chewing on will generally be enough to keep the squirrel from doing more damage.  Ropel comes in quarts and gallons.
